Foster/Adoption
Visit www.Petfinder.com to view LCHS foster pets available for adoption, and our LCHS Facebook page for animals not in LCHS care who need a new home, are lost or found.
For LCHS foster pets, please email LCHS to begin the application / adoption process. A volunteer will contact you regarding your interest. Please provide your name, address, email address, and phone number, in addition to the name or description of the animal you are interested in adopting.
Standard adoption fee for cats is $90. Standard adoption fee is $125 for dogs. These fees help to pay for the veterinary care that every pet gets with LCHS, and allows us to help other pets in the future. We don’t make money on adoptions – far from it. Average cost to LCHS for a pet we intake is around $200. It’s less if the pet is already sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped – and considerably more if the pet has not been cared for properly in the past, or if they’re ill or injured.
We’re required to collect a spay/neuter bond for pets adopted before they are sterilized. The only reason a pet would not be sterilized before adoption is if they are too young and small, or if our veterinarian recommends that the procedure be delayed due to other health issues. That bond is $50 for cats, $100 for dogs. The bond is refunded upon proof of sterilization, which must be done within 6 months, or the bond is forfeited.
For animals listed on our Facebook page, please contact the person listed directly. LCHS does not have custody of those animals.
Thanks to Feldman’s Farm and Home on K-7 in Bonner Springs, LCHS holds monthly adoption events, the 4th Saturday of each month Jan – October, and the 3rd Saturday in Nov – Dec. Scott and the crew at Feldman’s provide a great adoption setting, with space and the “stage” for the animals. We’re extremely grateful for their support, and so are Ruby, Boomer, Nell and Bingo – all adopted after meeting their forever families at Feldman’s.
Foster Home
Until LCHS has our own shelter, we can only save animals when we have foster homes available. To become a foster home the LCHS Foster Chair will visit to help you determine what animals may best fit your home, lifestyle and preference. LCHS secures the state license for each foster home. If you have space in your home, and time in your life to provide a temporary safe loving home for an animal who needs you, please email LCHS with your name, address, phone number, and email address, and tell us what sort of animals you’d be interested in fostering.
