PLEASE immediately report actual or suspected animal cruelty or neglect to your city government, Police Department, or Sheriff’s Department.  These actions aren’t just inhumane, they are criminal.  Time is of the essence, so please call these departments without delay, using 911 service when appropriate.

One of our long term goals is to be able to support local law enforcement with trained & certified Animal Cruelty and Neglect Investigators who can help them evaluate and document situations, serve as expert witnesses, and follow cases through prosecution when warranted.

At present, LCHS does not have authority or staff to perform criminal investigations.  We DO, however, follow-up with the appropriate law enforcement agency on every animal cruelty or neglect situation reported to us.  If we can do so safely, we will attempt to view the location and take photos so that we can also make a complaint to the appropriate law enforcement agency.  We will encourage the departments to investigate, and advocate for prosecution if warranted. 

Some cases of reported neglect turn out to be situations where owners merely need a bit of assistance.  In those cases, we have worked with some owners to secure necessary veterinary care, better /more food, or more appropriate housing for the animals.  This owner assistance is only possible because of the donations and contributions of our Members, Friends and supporters.  Please consider  joining one of the LCHS annual giving programs.
