The Leavenworth County Humane Society will be closed to the public from Friday, July 4th until Monday, July 7th in observance of Independence Day. We’ll reopen during normal business hours on Tuesday, July 8th at 12PM - 6PM. Over the weekend, we will still be available to our law enforcement partners and like always our incredible volunteers and staff will still be on site taking care of the animals!

While you're enjoying the festivities, please remember that more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. Loud fireworks, open gates, and extra visitors can spook even the calmest of pets!
Here are a few friendly reminders to help keep your furry friends safe.
- Double-check fences, gates, and doors to ensure they’re secure.
- Turn on the TV, music, or a fan to help muffle loud sounds.
- Keep pets indoors during fireworks! (Even if they’re normally fine outside.)
- Don’t bring pets to fireworks shows. They’re safer (and happier!) at home.
- Update your pet’s microchip info and make sure they're wearing a collar with some kind of ID. Even a piece of tape with your number on it attached to their collar would work! This simple step can be the key to getting your pet home quickly if they get lost!
In case your pet does go missing or you find a pet without their people, it's important to know who to call. Keep the local animal control contacts handy because having the right number could make all the difference in reuniting a lost pet with their family!
