When we announced in February that we didn’t see a way forward, you, our community

came through in a big way. You made it possible for us to continue past March, through the spring and into the summer. Your gifts have allowed us to care for, return to owner, adopt out or transfer as many dogs and cats as we took in from January through June (111 intakes, 111 live outcomes).

You did that!! More than $55,000 was donated in February and March, and we are speechless with gratitude.

To keep going, we still need you. And we’re asking each one to reach one. Tell someone you know why you give to LCHS, Inc., and why they should too.

In May, the LCHS, Inc. Board of Directors reviewed the output from detailed analysis of our operations and how to sustain them. We nailed down everything we do to care for the pets and what that costs. Down to the half-hour of labor, serving of food, vaccination and preventative. Excruciating detail.

We looked at all the ways we bring in resources. We learned that on top of services, contracts and fees, each month we need to bring in about $26K to sustain operations. In May, June & July, we didn’t meet those targets. We aren’t in as dire a situation as we were six months ago, but we will be if we together don’t turn things around.

We have had to spend more than twice what’s normal for veterinary expenses the past few months. $3,000 for Elias, the dog who was abandoned and shot (who turned out to be Crowley). (It’s complicated). Nearly $4,000 for Fleegle, a puppy saved from preventable parvovirus and now healthy in a great home. Multiple veterinary appointments for Prue, only to learn that she had inoperable colorectal cancer.

On May 30, our 4 ½ year old industrial washer died. Out of warranty, it is not economically repairable, beyond its useful life. To continue doing the volume and type of laundry we do every single day, we’ve ordered a similar machine that should keep us washing and drying in-house for years to come. That’s an $8500 unexpected expense. A special appeal on Facebook raised the money to pay for the new washer, but we still need to pay for the water & power to make it work!

We’re doing all we can. Holding payroll steady, training more volunteers. We have strengthened our fundraising team, and installed promising new smart and engaged folks as Vice President and Treasurer.

Our Business Champion program is built and ready to go! If you own or know a business that wants to gain customers by supporting the pets in our care, please let us know! We have a deal for you (and some fun options, too.)

If each of our 10,000 followers on social media gave just $10 a month, we’d have no worries. If only 100 gave $100 a month, we’d cover all the base costs – mortgage, insurance, utilities.

We continue to care skillfully and compassionately for the dogs and cats entrusted to us. Our “why” is them, and you, our community. You are not only part of our “why,” you are the biggest part of our “how.”

Thank you for anything you can do to help. Just $10 enables us to feed a dog for a week or a cat for two weeks. Just $50 provides food and preventatives for a puppy or kitten for two weeks. A $200 donation is enough to provide complete care to a dog for a week or a cat for twelve days.

Our goal for this drive is $30K in 30 days. We know it’s possible. Stay tuned for updates on our progress, and tidbits about some initiatives and program expansions underway! Of course, like, follow and share on social media.

Together, we can get the momentum going in the right way again. ❤️
