Just when we thought our Laila girl couldn't get more special– she still managed to surprise us all!
Laila has been having some tummy issues that we have spent the last couple of months trying to nail down. We just couldn't figure out if it was food related, allergy related, GI related, or what! However, after a hunch, a Google search and an X-Ray at Pleasant Valley we were FINALLY able to get to the bottom of what's been bothering Laila– which is Acquired Megaesophagus. Megaesophagus is a condition in dogs where the esophagus, the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach, becomes enlarged and loses its ability to move food properly.
Laila is a petite little girl that has been with us for almost exactly a year now after being found along K7 by the Lansing Police Department in April of 2024. When Laila first came in, she both stole and broke all our hearts at the same time. She was terribly thin and cut up, but she was still the sweetest little thing. It seemed like she knew right away that she was safe and was going to be loved. We have sure plumped her up over this last year while she has been searching for a home, but now she is starting her search for an extra special new home!
Laila does not seem to be the biggest fan of other animals but would likely do fine with humans of all ages! She makes some of the strangest noises you will ever hear come from a dog, but we can’t help but to love when she sings at us… if we can call it singing? She has a personality that you can’t help but fall in love with. Laila will also need a little bit of help when it comes to learning not to want to chase cars, but she is a very intelligent girl and with consistent training she should pick it up pretty easily!
With Laila having Megaesophagus, she will be on a special diet and need routine care her whole life– but that will not stop her from showering you with all the love and affection she has to give! We are still learning what her ideal mealtime routine looks like, but we are more than happy to discuss this with any interested adopters!
Speaking of her mealtimes, due to Laila’s diagnosis we could really use a hand with bulking up our wet dog food supply for her! If you are able to help us keep a steady supply on hand for her we would be so very grateful. If you scroll to the very bottom of our Wishlist, there is a special category called “For Laila” with the food she will be getting on a daily basis! You can shop our Wishlist on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/44aoKgG
